In short: To stop Spotify from deleting your search history, disable any task-killing apps on your phone and make sure your browser doesn’t delete cookies automatically.
When searching for a song or artist, do you notice your search history (recent searches) is gone? If you did not manually clear your history, here’s why Spotify deleted your Recent searches.
1. Log out and log in again
If Spotify keeps deleting your Recent searches, the first thing you should try is to log out from all devices, then log back in again. Often, this is needed to force a sync between devices.
2. Uninstall task-killing apps on your phone
Make sure you don’t have any task-killing or storage-cleaning apps on your phone. These apps are constantly deleting caches to save storage space and may interfere with Spotify.
Spotify stores temporary files as cache, so the app doesn’t need to load everything whenever you launch the app. Deleting Spotify’s cache may clear your recent searches.
The best course of action is to disable these cache-clearing apps, but if you don’t want to uninstall them from your phone, you can set an exception for Spotify.
3. Make sure your browser doesn’t delete cookies automatically
If you are using Spotify on a browser, make sure the browser does not delete cookies and browsing data automatically when you close the browser. Here’s how:
- Click “Settings” from the three dots on the top right corner of the browser.
- Click “Privacy and security” from the left sidebar.
- Click “Cookies and other site data” under “Privacy and security”.
- Disable “Clear cookies and site data when you close all windows”.
When this setting is enabled, your browser will clear cookies and site data when you close all windows. This will also clear your Recent searches from your Spotify account.
4. Disable offline mode
Although Spotify’s offline mode allows you to listen to your favorite songs without the internet, you cannot access your search history on your device (phone or computer).
Instead of seeing your recent searches, you will see a message that reads “Go online to search again” message while searching, whenever Spotify is set to offline mode.
Open the Spotify app, then tap the Settings (gear) icon in the top-right corner. Then, turn off the toggle for Offline mode from the Spotify app’s Settings menu and try to use the search tool again.
