In short: Make sure the Spotify and PayPal country is the same. Make sure your PayPal account is verified. If both do not work, add some money to your PayPal account.
Paying for a Spotify Premium subscription is convenient with PayPal. Unfortunately, sometimes it does not work and the payment will not go through. Here are 4 things you can do.
1. Make sure Spotify and PayPal country is the same
Make sure the country registered on your PayPal account matches the country set in your Spotify account. If both do not match, then your PayPal payment will not go through.
According to PayPal, you cannot change the address in your PayPal account to a country that is different from the country you used when you opened your account.
This is because the laws applicable to PayPal accounts differ by country and region.
If you have recently moved to a new country and you want to change the information on your PayPal account, you’ll need to close your existing account and open a new account.
You can also choose to open another PayPal account. As long as only one is a business account you can have 2 PayPal accounts (if you maintain residences in two countries).
If you choose to pay Spotify with PayPal, I think it’s better to change your PayPal information because you can only change your Spotify account’s country based on where you live.
2. Make sure your PayPal account is verified
Check your PayPal account. Is it verified? If not, then you won’t be able to pay for Spotify with PayPal. You can only make Spotify payments with PayPal if your account is verified.
When you sign up to PayPal, they will only ask for basic information about you, but as you use their service, they are obligated by law to know more about you (make sure you’re not a fraud).
According to PayPal, you can verify your account by:
- Adding and confirming a bank account.
- Applying for and being approved for a PayPal Credit product.
Once you have verified your account, you have proved that you own the financial details added to your account. Now you can pay for Spotify Premium using PayPal.
3. Your payment was declined by PayPal
In some cases, your payment has been declined by PayPal.
Payment may be declined for various reasons. In most cases, PayPal has identified suspicious activity on your account. If your payment was declined, you may need to:
- Confirm your email address listed on PayPal.
- Update the expiration date associated with your credit or debit card.
- Update the billing address associated with your credit or debit card.
- Confirm your credit or debit card (so PayPal knows you’re the owner).
- Confirm your bank account.
- Go through a security check to confirm your identity.
- Resolve a limitation placed on your account.
PayPal does all of the above to make sure it’s you, using the PayPal account. They will also ask if they see new or unusual activity, like a login from a new device or a different location.
PayPal often does verification to ensure a safe and secure payment service. They are dealing with a lot of people’s money after all, and the last thing they want is fraudulent transactions.
4. Add some funds to your PayPal account
If you have been using PayPal to pay for Spotify Premium for a long time, but suddenly the payment has not gone through, I have a quick and easy fix just for you:
Add some money to your PayPal account. Make sure you add enough funds to pay for your Spotify Premium subscription, and Spotify will accept the payment from PayPal.
You don’t need a credit card to add money to your PayPal account. You can use either a Visa or Mastercard debit card or a confirmed bank account.
To add money to your PayPal account, Go to your Wallet. Click Transfer Money. Then, select your preferred way of adding money and enter the amount.
Choose either “In seconds with debit” or “up to 5 days with your bank”.
A friend of mine has been using PayPal as a payment method for as long as she had Spotify Premium. She never had any issues and all of her payments always worked.
All of the sudden, the payment has not gone through even though her debit card is still linked to her PayPal account. Spotify asked her to link her PayPal account with a credit card.
Since she does not own one, there is no option of linking a credit card to the account. She told me that she added money to her account and was able to pay for Spotify Premium.
I hope this helps you.
